James Bond Items on Offer in Pop Culture Auction

Posted by GodSpeedDemon Monday, December 14, 2009 0 comments

Daniel Craig's aviator sunglasses designed by Tom Ford for last year's Quantum of Solace (above) are among a collection of James Bond items in Christie's London's Vintage Film Posters and Entertainment Memorabilia auction on Nov. 24. The shades, estimated at £1,000 - £1,500, are among the more modern 007 mementos in the sale, along with a poker table chair and barstool graced by Mr. Craig's derriere in 2006's Casino Royale, estimated at £1,000 - £1,500. On the vintage front there are some key items from 1974's The Man With the Golden Gun, such as a two-piece black silk evening suit made for Roger Moore for the film, offered at £3,000 - £5,000. Also from that film are the arch villain Scaramanga's custom triggers for the golden gun itself, made in the form of cufflinks which he used to assemble the lethal weapon, estimated at £2,000 - £3,000. On offer as well are a pair of black leather of Salvatore Ferragamo dress shoes worn by Moore in 1977's The Spy Who Loved Me, signed on the inside in gold ink along with a jocular note from the actor, for £800 - £1,200.

Some contrition is better than none, we suppose, and upon being probed about lengthy delays on top of two-week shipping times for its slick 27-inch iMacs, Apple has this weekend tossed its expectant fans an overdue apology:

The new iMac has been a huge hit and we are working hard to fulfill orders as quickly as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience or delay this may cause our customers.
Considering the 27-inch Core i7 machines are both the major attraction of the latest iMac refresh and the source of the most headaches for Apple, it's quite appropriate that the company would address its failure to make more prompt deliveries, but we're troubled that there's no further acknowledgement of the widespread issues plaguing those who have received their deliveries. Ah well, we'll take what little corporate humility we can find, and if you're fretting about your own machine, you can check it out for some of the more common defects at the link below.

For being in beta and being a browser based MMORTS, Heroes of Gaia is making a splash by garnering over 600,000 active monthly accounts worldwide for their beta -- a number that's nothing to sneeze at.

Heroes of Gaia is a browser-based 2D isometric strategy game, where you build a persistent kingdom and armies to both defend your land and steal it from other unsuspecting players. The game is currently in an open beta phase right now, but is looking forward to their first major update, entitled Babel, which will implement many of the requests of the player base.

If you think raising and army and conducting RTS combat is your thing, then you should jump on over to their main website and give the game a glance. It's free and run on an item shop, so there's not much to lose except a few minutes of your time.

Just as it looked like Dubai might go into a default on some of its debts and have to complete a $26 billion restructuring with bondholders, neighbor nation Abu Dhabi has provided billions in much-needed financing. The move has spurred stock market rallies around the world.

Abu Dhabi put $10 billion into state-owned Dubai World and its real estate arm. Dubai's property development firm, Nakheel, will use about $4 billion of the capital to pay off bonds due this week. The balance will be used to help Dubai World restructure its debt.
